CHI St. Luke's Health–Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center Hosts Iftar Dinner
Several Consul Generals and key leaders from the Muslim community honor guests with their presence

To commemorate the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, on May 23rd 2018 the international department and the Mission Integration at CHI St. Luke's Health–Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (BSLMC) hosted an Iftar dinner with about 200 community leaders and members, including several Consul Generals from the Middle East  and key leaders from the Islamic Society of Greater Houston.

“In our 4th year of hosting an Iftar dinner we have brought together hundreds of patients, families, physicians, and staff from different religious and cultural backgrounds to learn about the significance of the month of Ramadan,” said Ali Candir, staff chaplain at CHI St. Luke's Health–Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. “This event is just one more way we honor the traditions that unite our community.”

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Muslims are required to fast during daylight hours during Ramadan, starting each day’s fast with the predawn suhoor meal, and breaking the fast with the iftar at sundown. For many Muslims, Ramadan is a month of prayer, reflection, strengthening family and community ties, and charitable giving.
