Breastfeeding Support Services
Your milk is the most complete nutrition possible for your baby. It is full of immunities, antibodies and nutrients not duplicated in formula. Breastfeeding can be a very satisfying experience for mothers once the rhythm of breastfeeding is established. But before then, some mothers and babies may need additional help.
Our team of registered nurses at the Family Birthing Center is trained to be your first line of help with breastfeeding your baby. Lactation consultation is also available to new families with more complex breastfeeding concerns. We encourage you to consider our breastfeeding class if you choose to breastfeed.
Our breastfeeding support services include:
- inpatient lactation consultations
- breastfeeding support group
- breast pump rental
- breastfeeding classes
Inpatient services are available Monday through Friday. Breastfeeding support group meets each Wednesday from 10am-12pm. In order to limit infection exposure to babies and maintain privacy, please refrain from attending when you or your baby are ill and do not bring older children or other visitors.

Christa Williams, RN, BSN, IBCLC earned her international board certification in lactation consulting in 2009. She holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science from York College of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Delaware. She has been a registered nurse since 1996 and has provided nursing care in cardiac critical care as well as labor and delivery, high risk ante partum, postpartum and well newborn nursery. Her work as a labor and delivery nurse and her experience as a first time breastfeeding mother kindled her desire to learn all she could about breastfeeding. She studied, worked with mentors to provide direct hands on care assisting mothers to breastfeed, and went on to breastfeed her own three boys. Christa is passionate about empowering families with the education they need to make informed choices for themselves and dedicated to assisting families to reach their breastfeeding goals. When Christa is not helping mothers to breastfeed, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their three young boys, visiting with family and friends, exercising, cooking, and traveling.
