The Neuroscience Center is proud to be the first to bring Gamma Knife® technology to the North Houston and Montgomery County communities. Gamma Knife® is one of the most technologically advanced means of treating neurological disorders. Stereotactic radiosurgery delivers high doses of radiation to targeted areas of the brain while minimizing exposure to healthy brain tissue. The treatment is simple, non-invasive, and painless. It is usually completed in one session.

Gamma Knife® surgery, usually performed by a neurosurgeon accompanied by a radiation oncologist and medical physicist, has lower complication rates than open surgery. Effects of the treatment will occur over time. Radiation treatment is designed to stop the growth of tumors and lesions, which means that results will be seen after a period of weeks or even months.

Gamma Knife® provides options for patient conditions once thought inoperable because of age, medical condition, or location of the abnormality.

[Trigeminal neuralgia, common among patients with multiple sclerosis, causes facial pain. Gamma Knife® treatment is the least invasive neurosurgical option for patients who experience difficulty with pain medication. Approximately 85 to 90 percent of patients report excellent or good pain relief within one day to four months after the procedure.]
