Friends of Nursing recognizes the vital role nurses play in the work to transform healthcare and create healthier communities and for more than 28 years has supported the education and training of these remarkable professionals by raising funds for fellowships and research. The first Friends of Nursing fellowship was awarded in 1987, and since then more than 170 deserving recipients have been able to further their nursing careers thanks to the generosity and vision of supporters just like you.
Funds raised through the fall campaign and spring luncheon support two of the most costly education tracks for employees at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
- The Friends of Nursing RN to BSN Program is available to current staff nurses at Baylor St. Luke’s who are interested in pursuing Bachelor’s Degrees in Nursing (BSN). Fellowships up to $10,000 cover tuition, books and fees for employees enrolled in a BSN program.
- The Friends of Nursing RN Program provides fellowships up to $30,000 in support for full-time employees of Baylor St. Luke’s who have completed the prerequisites for nursing and are ready to enter a nursing school to pursue a bachelor’s degree which leads to licensure as a registered nurse (RN). In addition to tuition, fees and books, funds enable the recipient to work a flexible reduced schedule and receive full-time salary and benefits.
- Nurses are frontline caregivers who are uniquely qualified to identify gaps in the health care system that could benefit from research, ultimately furthering best practices among the nursing profession. Building the capacity for nurse-led research is essential to the creation of practical service delivery methods within a hospital setting. This is why Friends of Nursing in recent years has expanded our funding opportunities to include nursing research
