The mission of the pain management department at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is to offer a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan to those who are suffering from physical pain. Our multidisciplinary approach includes both interventional and non-interventional treatment.

Our pain management experts combine state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and medical technology with Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center tradition of treating the whole patient - mind, body and spirit.

Our pain management experts utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment - such as computer-assisted tomography, Magnetic Resonance Interferometry, and electromyography - makes highly specific diagnoses possible.

In doing so, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center specialists can complete extensive evaluations of complex pain conditions. Diagnostic evaluations may require several outpatient appointments or a brief inpatient stay.

WE CAN HELP WITH TREATMENT
Following an evaluation, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center pain management specialists prepare an individualized treatment plan, which may involve a singular technique or a combination of methods to achieve optimal pain relief. These methods include, but are not limited to:

  • Nerve Blocks -- Interruption of pain pathways
  • Nerve Stimulation -- Electrical nerve stimulation.
  • Epidural Steroid Injections -- To reduce swelling around nerves.
  • Trigger Point Injections -- To relieve pain in specific areas.
  • Prescribing or Rearranging Medications -- To relieve pain and avoid drug abuse.
  • Dorsal Column and Peripheral Nerve Stimulators -- To relieve back pain, radical pain, and nerve disorders.
  • Morphine Pumps -- To relieve intractable pain.
  • Chemical and Cryoneurolysis -- Freezing of nerves to relieve pain.
  • Radiofrequency Neuroplasty -- New technology for arresting abnormal nerve impulses.

It is a common practice to combine these procedures with the following:

  • physical therapy and exercise program
  • occupational therapy
  • social services
  • drug detoxification program
  • psychotherapy and behavioral modification
