Heart transplantation is a major surgical procedure that replaces a patient’s weak and failing heart with a heart from another person, either living or deceased. When all other treatments fail, heart transplantation becomes the only surgical option.

Established in 1982, the Heart Transplant Program at the Texas Heart® Institute at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is one of the most experienced, successful programs in the world. Our surgeons have performed more than 1,100 transplant procedures.
