Each year in the United States, approximately 150,000 people seek medical attention after experiencing their first seizure. Forty to 50 percent of first-time episodes will develop into recurrent seizures; many of those patients will be diagnosed with epilepsy.

CHI St. Luke’s Health offers innovative and comprehensive care to patients with epilepsy. We begin with sophisticated outpatient or inpatient diagnostic procedures, including EEG monitoring. A multidisciplinary team assesses results to determine the origin of the seizure activity as well as appropriate medical and surgical therapy. Many medications are approved for managing seizures. However, if seizures continue, additional treatment options may be considered. In extreme cases of epilepsy not controlled with medication, surgery may be helpful.
