Pregnancy can be a time of excitement and a time of uncertainty. You may have many questions, as well as anxiety, over what to expect with a growing family. We offer a variety of classes to help prepare you for childbirth and help you feel more comfortable taking care of yourself and your new infant. Our classes are meant for you and a significant other to attend and all class fees include both persons attending.

Preparing for Childbirth: Weekly Series
This series of classes will help you prepare for your labor and delivery here at CHI St. Luke's Health–The Woodlands Hospital. You will have the opportunity to meet other expectant parents and learn about the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, labor, and birth. You will learn about comfort measures, relaxation, breathing techniques, and anesthesia options to manage the discomforts of labor. Information on cesarean birth and hospital procedures will be presented as well. You will enjoy a tour of the Family Birthing Center during this series. This is not a Lamaze Certified Class but does go over many of the same topics. We encourage partners and/or family members to attend with the expectant mom.
Cost: $95.00 per couple.
When to attend: Recommended about 10–14 weeks before your due date
Length of class: 2–2.5 hours once a week for four weeks
Preparing for Childbirth: Fast Class
This full-day class is a must for expectant parents wanting a refresher or those who cannot commit to the 4-week Preparing for Childbirth class. You will have the opportunity to meet other expectant parents and learn about the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, labor, and birth. You will learn about comfort measures, relaxation, breathing techniques, and anesthesia options to manage the discomforts of labor. Information on cesarean birth and hospital procedures will be presented as well. This is not a Lamaze Certified Class but does go over many of the same topics. We encourage partners and/or family members to attend with the expectant mom.
Cost: $95.00 per couple
When to Attend: About 6–8 weeks before your due date
Length of class: One 8-hour session
Childbirth eLearning Class
If you cannot attend the weekly series or the one day crash course, this option allows the most flexibility in learning. This is an online learning experience where you obtain the same booklet used in the class with the same access to videos shown in class, but on your own time in the comfort of your own home. You have the opportunity to schedule a one-on-one appointment with our nurse navigator that can answer any questions you may have at the end of the class. (This one hour appointment can either be over the phone or in person.) You can get started any time after registering for the class and picking up the packet in Labor and Delivery. After you've registered and paid in full, please call 936-266-2232 to get started any time.
When to attend: After picking up your packet, start at your convenience.
Length of class: Flexible (depending on your schedule and the amount of time you can dedicate)
This class is designed to give new and expectant parents an overview of Infant CPR without the hassle of a full-day course. You will learn how to recognize an emergency with your child and respond appropriately and confidently. This class is a must for everyone in the family—grandparents are welcome, too!
This class is not a certification class, but the same information will be shared—no testing, just practice!
Cost: $25.00 per couple
Length of class: 1.5–2 hours
A Class for New Brothers and Sisters: Preparing for a New Baby in the Family
Want to help your child experience a sense of involvement in the birth of your new baby? This fun, age appropriate, and entertaining class will acquaint your child with the childbirth experience in the Family Birthing Center. They will learn about the special contributions they can make as big brothers and sisters, as well as positive sibling skills. A tour of the Family Birthing Center is included. This class is designed for children generally between the ages of 3–7 years old. Space is limited to 8 children max.
Cost: $10.00 per child (Max $20 per family)
When to attend: About one month before your due date
Length of class: 2 hours
This class is intended to introduce prospective parents to newborn characteristics and fundamentals of infant care, such as bathing, diapering, clothing, as well as child safety and medical concerns. We encourage partners and/or family members to attend with the expectant mom.
Cost: $30.00 per couple (Take this course and our Infant CPR review course and get a $5.00 discount!)
Length of class: 2.5–3 hours
Breastfeed with confidence after taking this class! You will learn how breastmilk is produced, how to encourage your baby to nurse, how to latch your baby correctly, what to expect the first few days of life, and how to manage common challenges nursing moms and babies face. We encourage partners and/or family members to attend with the expectant mom.
Cost: $30.00 per couple or FREE if you are delivering at a CHI St. Luke's Health facility

Breastfeeding can be challenging. With the right support, you can learn helpful techniques to promote a good latch and nourish your newborn. Meet with other new moms to help you in managing the common challenges of nursing moms.
Class Length: 2 hours
Family Birthing Center Tour
Our Family Birthing Center staff will lead you on an informal tour of the Family Birthing Center at CHI St. Luke's Health–The Woodlands Hospital to help you familiarize yourself with the facility and the birthing suite. Children 12 and over are welcome on the tour. Tours start promptly on time, outside the Family Birthing Center entrance on the second floor.
When to Attend: Any Sunday at 3 p.m. before your due date, except for holidays. Registration requested.
Length of class: 30–45 minutes
