More women than men die of stroke each year in the U.S. because women live longer than men and stroke risk increases with age.

Projections show that by 2030, an additional 3.4 million people 18 and older will have had a stroke, a 20.5 percent increase in prevalence from 2012. To decrease your stroke risk:

  • stop smoking
  • eat a heart-healthy diet
  • exercise
  • know your family history
  • talk with your doctor about controlling  your blood pressure and  cholesterol levels.

  • Face- is one side of the face drooping?
  • Arms-is one arm weaker than the other?
  • Speech-the the person having speech difficulty?
  • Time- time to call 911 and receive immediate medical treatment.
