Earl Shipp Joins CHI St. Luke’s Health Board of Directors

Houston, TX (September 15, 2016) – CHI St. Luke’s Health (CHI St. Luke’s) announced today that Earl Shipp, Vice President of Operations, U.S. Gulf Coast, The Dow Chemical Company, has been appointed to the system’s Board of Directors.

“Mr. Shipp’s decades of leadership experience will add a valuable perspective to our Board,” said Michael H. Covert, Chief Executive Officer, CHI St. Luke’s Health. “His business acumen will be instrumental as we implement our strategic plan to advance the vision of our health system and build healthier communities throughout Southeast Texas.”

Since joining Dow Chemical in 1981, Shipp has held numerous domestic and international leadership positions. In his current role, Shipp oversees nine manufacturing sites including Texas Operations, the largest integrated chemical manufacturing complex in the world. Prior to serving as Vice President of Operations for Dow’s U.S. Gulf Coast region, he held dual roles as Vice President and Site Director of Dow’s Louisiana Operations and Global Operations Director of the Propylene Oxide and Glycols business in 2000. He was then named Global Business Vice President for Dow Oxides & Glycols in 2004.

In 2006, he moved to Dubai, UAE, to launch the India, Middle East, and Africa Region for Dow. In 2007, Shipp was named Business Group President for Basic Chemicals, serving on the Business Operations Committee with responsibility for oversight of six basic chemical businesses. He was named President – India, Middle East & Africa (IMEA) for Dow in December 2008. Shipp became the Vice President of Texas Operations in 2011 and was named to his current role in 2012.

Shipp is the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Economic Development Alliance of Brazoria County, Chairman of the Board of the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association, a member of the Texas Chemical Council Board of Directors, and a member of the Greater Houston Partnership Board of Directors.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University in Michigan, and is a graduate of the Indiana University Business School Consortium.
